Pitch events over the years

Here’s a quick table showing how the number of pitch events have increased over the years which probably contribute to length of games. A pitch event is everything a pitcher does that gets recorded in the count field of the event data. Throwing to first is an event as well as throwing a strike.  The last column normalizing events to plate appearances (PA).   Pitch events per PA started to increase dramatically after 2002.

Although event data is accurate back to 1974, pitch data was not kept accurate until 1994.
