This will be the last Cubs status for regular season and then a final one perhaps during the playoffs sometime.

The above shows team status for the today and the last four times we did this starting on August 8. Since then BAT down almost as much as PITCH is up and the Cubs went 24-17 going from +19 to +26. Unearned Runs above average (UR) up as well. Slow and steady got the Cubs best record in NL so far.

Baez climbs to #6 in MLB and clear favorite for NL MVP using this data model which pulls no punches and has no bias for any team. Lester popped back into the top 100. He was in top 10 back in June. Hamels dropped out of top 200 due to his TEX value. The above shows he has pitched well for the Cubs. Hendricks clawing his way to the top again. He pitches today.

Relief still considered Tier 1. Only Milwaukee and Oakland have better relief squads which we’ll see in the next playoff horse race post. Hendricks and Lester have been climbing back to the top so that’s a good sign. Let’s look at relief.

This is everyone listed on the roster as relievers with the expanded roster. This model only counts the top 7 in September which is skewing the averages for that upward league wide. Four guys in top 200 with Chavez and Chavez virtually tied for being the best. I hear Strop may be closer which is an entire subject matter of its own. He’s close enough to be considered the best as well. If Edwards can hang in there for the playoffs Cubs pitching should be OK.
That’s all for now. New series with PIT tomorrow and then the last playoff horse race using expanded rosters. Until then ….
